ontology contains data about the evolutionary history (both orthologs and paralogs) of gene families. A gene family is defined as "a group of genes that evolved after the speciation of single-metazoan animals". Our ontology contains genes for individual species (human or mouse), thus families consist of paralogs.
Statistics
The human ontology contains 8,272 families, 16,684 genes, and 16,812 associations.
The mouse ontology contains 7,953 families, 16,974 genes, and 17,040 associations.
Download
All data for this ontology was downloaded on March 3, 2009 (TreeFam release 7).
